The
Moon
The moon shines down in the bright October sky.
It illuminates the place on the grass where we lie.
We talk of our time together: we talk of the past.
It seems like the years fly by so fast.
We talk about people and places and things.
We think about what the future might bring.
The moon shines down in the starry sky,
As it spies on the figures of you and I.
It looks down as we go our separate ways.
It sees us say good-bye and sees us embrace.
It will always remember.

Silent Soldier
dedicated to my grandfather and his fight with cancer
The silent soldier stands at the
ready.
His posture is strong and his gait is steady.
He starts on the trail to go to war.
He passes by sick and homeless and poor.
These battles are hard and the war will be tough.
He wonders if strength will last long enough.
As his health dwindles, he knows he must choose.
But there's one thing he knows he never will lose:
Faith in god is his ally and friend.
So he chooses to fight right down to the end.
He fights
his last battle but is not afraid.
He wishes to die and the price will be paid.
As he looses his life, he fights a good fight.
His soul is triumphant and soars through the night.
The pain is no more and the war is long lost.
The soldier is gone, but at what cost?
His family is left and the memories, too.
They all mourn the loss, but what can they do?
The man won't be back. He's long gone away,
And the family thanks god: He's in heaven today.

Anger
Why does English confuse me so?
I might as well punch a hole in a wall.
I might as well tear paper to shreds.
I might as well yell at the top of my lungs.
I might as well throw breakables at doors.
I might as well stay silent.

If I said "I love you" today,
would it make you stay?
Would you put your arms around me?
Would you stay another day?
If I said "I love you" tomorrow,
would it take away your sorrow?
Would you smile in my direction?
Would you stay until tomorrow?
If I said "I love you" for all time,
would you always be mine?
Would you love me forever?
Or do I wait in line?

The Love Drug
I don't know what to do.
I'm addicted to you.
Like a drug, my brain craves you.
I can't wait to see you again.
I can't get enough of you when I do.
I would sell my belongings to get more of you.
I would do anything to get one more shot.
If I overdose, will I die?
No, but it would be heaven.
Is there rehab for love?
If there was, would anyone go?
I won't kick the habit.
You make me feel too good.
You give me a natural high.
But I don't know what to do.
I'm addicted to you and I think you need me, too.

Too Young?
Don't tell me I'm too young to know what
love is.
Surely I have a brain... Surely I have a heart.
All the age and education in the world
Can't tell you that love is like fine art.
Appreciate and nurture it when you have it
For sometimes it gets away.
If it's lost, you'll regret it.
You life will be in disarray.
I know what love is.
It's clear as a bell.
So don't say I can't understand.
I comprehend quite well.
